Additional Information
What motivated you to become a councillor?
I wanted to try and make a difference in the community and to make sure that working people had a voice in their local area.
Background outside the council
I went to school at the Willows and then Netherstowe before studying for a physics degree at the University of Liverpool. While I was at school, I had weekend jobs at the Anglesey Arms on Curborough Road doing odd jobs and then at TJ Hughes in the menswear department. After University I took a year out and worked at the Pig and Truffle on Tamworth St as a barman before beginning my teacher training at the University of Birmingham in September 2008. I taught physics and astronomy in Birmingham and Staffordshire until 2017 when I changed career to work for a teachers trade union where I still spend my days supporting teachers in the classroom across the region. I've been actively involved in trade unions since the start of my teaching career and was named NASUWT Young Activist of the Year in 2015. I'm also a Lichfield City Councillor and through that role I've been involved with the utterly fantastic team at Curborough Community Centre since 2019.
Hobbies or interests
Well the first one would have to be politics, obviously. But outside of all that I do like to follow sport, literally anything from American Football to Curling and all points in between. I do try to get out and watch our local football teams when I can, but I don't have as many free weekends as I'd like. I am a huge fan of real ale too, and love to sample anything that comes out of the taps in black.
