Councillor Steven Norman

What motivated you to become a councillor?

Seeing how decisions were being made by organisations, including councils, without regard for my views or my neighbours' concerns.  I found that I was able to speak up and challenge these and so one thing led to another.

Background outside the council

I went to a local Grammar school (that was abolished under the local Conservatives - for which I am ever grateful) that was not interested in working class pupils, or their families, so that took me in the direction of The Labour Party.  I've had many jobs - from a Warden at an International (Vegetarian, non-smoking) Hostel in London in '69 to Political Assistant to an MP in the '90's - but the longest one was working for a local Age UK as a Senior Information and Advice Officer.

Hobbies or interests

Shakespeare, Bob Dylan, art, ballet, psychology, classical music and classical films - especially the classic international films of the 50's, 60's and 70's. Anything that is funny.
