What motivated you to become a councillor?
I have been impressed by the Labour team and the difference they have made. I wanted to bring my experiences and knowledge to the team, and to try to bring trust and respect back into politics.
Background outside the council
In the late 80s I started campaigning to set up a women's refuge. In 1991 I registered a charity, Pathway Project, and in 1994 I set up a 24-hour helpline with trained volunteers, and opened a refuge a year later. Pathway continued to grow and is an award-winning charity now. I retired four years ago but am still a volunteer. I have qualifications in management, pastoral counselling, business coaching and training. I have been nominated and was a finalist for Inspirational Women of the Year, Pride of Britain in which I was a Regional Local Hero and a finalist. In 2018 I was awarded an MBE. I am on the Parochial Church Council at St John's Community Church and I am also a Burntwood Town Councillor.
Hobbies or interests
I enjoy entering competitions, reading, and crafting. I also like crossword puzzles and word puzzles such as wordle. I love spending time with my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
