Councillor Claire Booker

What motivated you to become a councillor?

I live in the part of Lichfield that falls under a Tamworth address and the Tamworth MP's constituency. I was fed up with this part of 'Lichfield' being neglected and felt it needed a better voice.

Background outside the council

In 2020, I retired from a Military career. I spent 20 years in the Royal Air Force, initially as Fast Jet Aircrew and following a branch transfer, 15 years in the Medical Services specialising in medical planning and Public Health. My Service saw me deploy on military operations to Afghanistan and throughout the Middle East, work for the United Nations in South Korea, New York and number of UN training locations. I took my family with me when I was posted for 2 years in the Falkland Islands and following this I was posted to the Defence Medical Services at Whittington, where I ended my career and settled in the area with my family.

Hobbies or interests

I love the outdoors including hill walking, skiing and any travel. I am passionate about living a more self-sufficient lifestyle and take pride in growing my own fruit and veg on my allotment as well as looking after my chickens. In the dark winter months, I love to sit down with some yarn and a crochet hook or a good book.
