What motivated you to become a councillor?
Early experiences at Sunday School and Grammar School. I wanted to work towards a fairer, more just and more equal world.
I believe in the power of communities to support each other. Councils and councillors can't do everything, especially after years of "austerity" but we can facilitate and empower local communities to address priority concerns and use our resources to make that happen.
Background outside the council
Following graduation, I was a teacher and 6th Form Tutor. After having children, I applied for a temporary organiser's role in the Labour Party and, in 1992, was employed by the then-MP for Cannock & Burntwood and subsequently Cannock Chase. After he retired, I worked as Parliamentary Officer for a charity supporting disabled children and their families until retirement.
Hobbies or interests
I enjoy reading, the theatre, stargazing and our garden. Watching our grandchildren grow and helping them to thrive is my passion.
